PDI-ready exterior checklist for GTA builders

The checklist

Brick and stone

• [ ] No mortar smears, splatter or efflorescence on the face
• [ ] Weep holes and vents clear
• [ ] Sills and caps clean

Concrete

• [ ] Driveway, walkway, porch and steps free of mud, paint and debris
• [ ] Garage floor swept and washed
• [ ] No staining from equipment or materials

Windows and doors

• [ ] Frames, sills and tracks free of mortar, caulking and dust
• [ ] Protective films removed where appropriate
• [ ] Hardware and thresholds clean

Siding, trim and soffits

• [ ] No mud splash-back on lower courses
• [ ] Soffits and fascia free of dust and debris

Grading and landscaping

• [ ] Construction debris removed from the lot
• [ ] Sod or seed areas clear of materials
• [ ] Window wells clean

Where power washing fits

Book washing after masonry, grading and exterior trades are finished and before the PDI. Washing too early means the next trade dirties the house again. New masonry needs low pressure and the cleaner the brick manufacturer recommends. See new construction power washing.
